Lady Snowblood v1: The Deep-Seated Grudge
Reviewed by Tom Rosin

"A story of pure vengeance, Lady Snowblood is about a daughter born of a singular purpose, to avenge the death of her family at the hands of a gang of thugs, a purpose woven into her soul from the time of her gestation."

Another cold-blooded revenge drama from the author of Lone Wolf. This time set in the late 19th century, after Japan had opened its borders. It's got a nice mix of modern western sensibilities clashing with a traditional Japanese way of life.

Oyuki is a strong yet disturbed woman, born in prison to a mother whose sole purpose for having a child was for an instrument to exact revenge through, posthumously. Both a tale of revenge and a comment on the changing attitudes in Japanese society - Snowblood being traditional values of honour, and the men she pursues being products of a greedy and corrupt "western" influence - this comic was also made into a series of films which Quentin Tarantino did a watered-down homage to called Kill Bill, which you may have heard of.
