Reviewed by Dan Polley “From Eroica with Love” is the story of a young international thief who specializes in thievery on a grand scale. The main character, Eroica, is a feminine-looking man who cannot help but singularly focus on a NATO representative. He admits rapidly and unabashedly to being in love with that man, known as the Major. Eroica devises plans that he hopes will garner the attention of the major. However, the major simply seems to see Eroica as a nuisance — nothing more than a pesky gnat he has to swat away every now and then. There isn’t much redeeming about this volume. The plot is spectacularly over the top, especially for a story of this genre — action/adventure. Eroica continually tries to steal simply to gain the attention of the NATO major. And the locales show that the cast of characters jet set from place to place, with little development of the storyline in between. And the character of Eroica is a complete over-the-top composition of frivolity and nuisance. He’s far too singularly focused on his love life for there to be any interesting developments in the storyline. The art isn’t all too bad, but there isn’t much in it that sticks out, either. Each character seems to have a similar style in structure, which can be a bit confusing at times, especially in the beginning of the volume. The Cold War-era setting is interesting and refreshing to see a story take such a storyline. Despite that, there really isn’t anything to make this volume a must-read.
